Time Keeps On Slipping into the Future

I heard somewhere that studies have shown that time seems different for kids than it is for adults.  Check out a blog by Psychology Today.  The evidence might be all in my head.

For kids, time goes slow, the days seem long, nothing ever happens fast enough, and they can’t wait for tomorrow.  For adults, time goes fast, there is never enough time to do all of the things we want to do in a day, and it always seems like we always have to leave something for tomorrow.

We’re talking about the same time here.  For kids, time drags on.  Kids seem to have so much time that they have to fill the void of unusable time with something they call boredom.  We all have seen the physical symptoms of boredom, when a kid’s head becomes limp and may fall from side to side as their eyes roll up toward the ceiling.  This often is accompanied by an involuntary sigh and prolong yawn that can make an adult cringe.  Kids are not afraid to tell you when they enter this mysterious vortex of excess time.  The phrases, “I’m bored,” and “This is boring,” will spew forth almost immediately prior to the physical, all body drop, almost like fainting.

Adults, on the other hand, are tying to figure out what  happened to all the extra time they used to have, and if kids seem to have so much of it, maybe they could share it.  That’s why adults are so frustrated whenever they witness a kid with so much extra time on their hands.

If I had a million dollars, I would see if I could buy some extra time.  I wouldn't need much, just enough to complete the tasks I should have done yesterday.  I want to visit a good friend, catch the big game, or perhaps go on a vacation I have been talking about, but could never find the time.  I’m afraid I am going to spend so much time looking for extra time that someday I just might run out of time.

In conclusion readers, my advise is to cherish time.  Boredom is ok once in a while. Have the courage to take a positive risk to fill that boredom void with some new adventures.  Kids, you are only young once and the responsibilities of adulthood can be managed in time if you learn to manage your time now while you still have so much of it.  And if you don’t want it, I’ll take it.  Perhaps we could start a new adventure together after I finish grading papers, mowing the lawn, picking up my kids from sports and music, making dinner, paying bills…...

  2. I think this is because kids still have a long life to live and adults wish they did more fun things when it seemed like time was longer than it actually is

    1. I agree but i think that adults just have so many things to do so they think that it goes by so fast and us kids just think it goes slow because we keep looking at the clock while working but adults just go by fast and they barely look at the clock.

  4. I agree because on most days, i feel like the days are long and are slow and i feel like they are never gonna end, but at the same time i think it is good for me because i can get more things done. For adults, they might need more time because they have much more things to do.

  6. True because some days they do go long and slow, i feel like if the day is ever going to end but when i really thimk about it there is nothing else i need to do. I dont have to go home and cook dinner are go to a job like adults are my parentS. I dont have to run to the store to get food for my family. I need this school so i can learn and move on to other grades and get smarter has i go along the grades. Maybe i could even go to a awesome college just because how good my grades are.

  8. That is true because sometimes adults don't get to have peace, kids are right to if you pay attention to what time it is the day will go slower,if you do pay attention it will go faster and there is nothing to worry about.

  11. It's not how much time you have it's what you choose to do with it

    1. If you choose your time wisely and work really hard, you won't even have enough time to finish your work. I think that's why parents are so frustrated and lose track of time so easily.

    2. I agree Mandy, if you do choose your time wisely, you won't even notice the time going so fast.

  12. This is so true because the kids get to have peace. But guess what adults don't get to have peace but on certain days.

  13. I think that some days do go by slow if they arnt very important days.If kids are always occupied with fun things every second of the day, we would agree with the adults. Adults think time goes by so fast becuase they have so much they need to fit in in one day, exspecially as parents.

  14. Why kids think time is going to slow is because they need to find something fun to do in there life time or don't even bother to look at the time because time seems to go by so slow for the those kids, but sometimes kids are having so much fun with there friends, then when they realize the time it just seems that it just flew by also it seems like it was just right around the corner sneaking up on you to rune your fun.

  15. When kids are doing things they have to do but don't want to do kids think that time is going by slow because what they are doing things that are boring to them. But when kids are doing things that they like to do they have fun they don't pay attention to time. For instance, when kids are taking a test or doing homework they are thinking about how much time it is going to take for them to do something they want to do. But when they are at a party they don't think about time because they are having fun and they don't want to stop what they are doing.

  16. Money becomes the next issue. Even if you find the time to do what you want, you probably need to find the money to help you spend the time the way you want it. Does that make sense?

  17. Days go by really fast but when your having a bad day they go really slow and you just don't want to do your homework and I have felt that way and believe me it is horrible when you realize that the day goes so slow try to be happy and see where it gets you. Sometimes the days go so fast you wonder why it goes so fast. when it goes slow you wonder why it did go so slow. You can never wait for Friday to come but then the week goes so slow why is that.?
