Students Prepare for Election 2012

Middle school students many not be confident in their selection for President of the United States, if they know who is running at all.  Their background knowledge consists of the information they have gained by the highly suggestive political ads telling us that each candidate is a crook and neither can be trusted.

Scholastic Magazine has a page on their site that does a nice job breaking down the candidates and the political process.  You have to dig a little, but there is a lot of information about what each candidate is all about and the obstacles they have to overcome to become president.
Diffen is a fun website that compares anything you can think of.  It does a nice job breaking down the two candidates into two columns and covers a variety of issues.  Some of the content is over my head, but there is a lot of interesting information that may help in your decision when voting time comes.

Middle school students need to think about the fact that whoever wins on November 6 is probably going to make decisions that will affect them directly when they are older.  One good example is college tuition.  It may not possible in the future for everyone to go to college if everyone can't afford it.

Merrill Middle School students can go to my web site to cast there vote for president starting on November 1.  Be sure to be an informed voter.  Don't be swayed by the opinions of others, make your opinion count.

  1. To me the election every four years is something I don't look forward to. Since its the biggest job in the US is on the line it seems like all the candidates act like kindergarteners how it's he said this and that guy says this. It also seems like you can't read a book with a radio on, drive, watch tv without some add coming on.

    1. I agree. I don't like how the candidates just basically say mean stuff about each other sometimes and sometimes the candidates aren't even ready for what is going to happen when or if they become the president since it's such a hard job and a lot of people do depend on you if you are the president and there are disagrees and agrees along with it. It isn't fun to listen to the ads about the elections either.

    1. i agree because they think they are helping them selves to get people to vote for them but the ads are just annoying people and making them annoyed so they dont want to even vote

    2. I don't like those ads because they are annoying and some of them are fake. It isn't fun loading for videos or games because of the ads and it's sometimes a waste of time waiting for them to load and most people just ignore them and look at something else until the ad is done.

    3. Yingyakia, you have to remember that they put up those adds so they get in your head and you start believing things about them that is not true.

    4. True some of them can be fake but it's still intresting to read it, i think some of the people tried to infer there artical like what we are doing in literacy.
Sometimes it's real but it sounds fake you never know if it's true or not unless your the one that is writing the artical.

    5. I know, but then they are just really annoying and yes, it just makes a lot of people believe the things they say on the ads so they change their votes which sometimes isn't a good thing. My sister says that at the end of a commercial, if it's real, then Romney or Obama would have to say i'm _______ and i approve this message since my sister works for a democratic office, she knows a lot about politics.

  6. I agree that there both crooks but we have to vote for one or the other so you have to pick the better one out of the two or witch president you most agree with Obama or Rommny

    1. I think sometimes the one candidate's campaign cuts out parts of the other candidate's speech to make them look bad. They take their words out of context. In this commercial Mitt Romneny could have said other words before or after this and we could have seen this in a different point of view.

  9. I can't believe that these candidates should not be the president because they don't worry about themselves and tell the truth about themselves and argue that the other candidate is wrong about them and it is not fair for the people to watch candidate commercials that don't concern that candidate. I think that they can't worry about themselves because their to busy trying to think of a lye about the other candidate.
