It's August. Summer sports are over. Your family already took that trip to the Dells, or maybe even some place far away. Now what? Are these what they call the dog days of summer? One thing that is happening is forgetting; forgetting what you learned in school the previous year. How many kids are picking up their books to review their subjects to they can start the year running? My guess is very few. Hence, this is an issue with the traditional school calendar.
New scenario. It's the middle of August. Your family did all of the things you usually do in the summer including sports and vacations. The difference is that you are already in school. You might need a little time to review last school year's concepts, but for the most part, you are fresh from your four weeks off of school, and you still remember what you learned last year. That is what is said can happen if districts decide to convert to a balanced year round schedule.
Year-round school has generated debate in districts around the country as a way to improve test scores and meet budget demands. The debate seems to be split down the middle. One thing that has to be clear. Students do not go to school 12 straight months. In year round school, the number of days students are in class will be very similar, it's just that vacations will be spread out over a consistent calendar
We have spent a lot of time on this topic. It's time to put your voice to debate on our blog. Assume Oshkosh is going to consider balanced scheduling for next year. What do you think? Be sure to support your opinion with content from our lessons and the websites provided. Please feel free to respond to posted comments, but be sure to elaborate on your opinion with facts as well
I think we should have a longer summer break to get away from school. I also think year schooling is a good and a bad idea because I have heard the debate. Year round schooling is for the district to choose and best for the students.
ReplyDeleteLonger summer break? Are you serious? What do you think the district should do? No more fence sitting. Take a side and defend it with what you learned. You need to support your comments.
DeleteHeya! I realize this is somewhat off-topic but I had to ask.
ReplyDeleteDoes operating a well-established blog like yours take a lot
of work? I'm completely new to operating a blog but I do write in my journal every day. I'd like to start a blog
so I will be able to share my experience and feelings
online. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or tips for new aspiring blog owners.
Thankyou!

Year around schooling is a bad idea beacuse kids love those 3 months off. They would not want to do school all year long. We have learned that every nine weeks we would have two week breaks right. Studies show you can get brain damage from those constant breaks. What about special needs kids they can't mentally have school for all year round because they want to play and have that free time. They would get more damaged then they already are because of those constant two week breaks. I know you would still have the normal breaks that you have today. You would have less people doing thier homework because they feel that those two week breaks are just there to do whatever they basically are,but the people who don't do their homework now a days won't do thier homework if there is year round schooliing. Another reason year round schooling is a bad idea is because parents would have to pick up their kids if the kids can't ride the bus can't or they can't walk home and the gas they use can polute the air creating a bad econamy. Teachers need time off to plan the next school year and more tatics to do in different situations and they take classes during the summer. What about supplies kids will need new supplies constantly and bothering their parents about it and making them spend more money. This is why year round schooling is a bad idea. When I think like this i think about different people like special needs, teachers, parents, and regular kids.
ReplyDeleteI think school all year around with some nice breaks built in would be a fantastic idea. This way you would always remember what you are learning and you could build upon it. I have a friend who teaches in AZ and she goes all year around and loves it. You have some wonderful breaks in early fall, winter, spring, and summer months. My vote is YES, yeah for change!!!
