Better Than Hunger Games?

Dust Lands - Blood Red Road by Moira Young is book one in a trilogy depicting primitive lifestyles during a post apocalyptic world setting where an almost wild west mentality now is required for survival. With the successes of Maze Runner and Hunger Games, author Moira Young puts a new twist on how her young characters must survive harsh environmental change, a rogue government regime that controls the people through slavery, and a very powerful and addicting drug.

Saba's brother is kidnapped by the king's men, her father and mother are dead, and her younger sister now in her care. Horses, crossbows, and slingshots are now the weapons of choice in this rugged country. Saba reluctantly needs to rely on a group of vigilante rebel friends to help her complete her quest to save her brother, and at the same time take down King Pinch and the Tonton sworn to protect him.

If you have read Maze Runner by James Dashner, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, or watched the movie, you might like this new trilogy.  What makes these books so appealing to readers?  I wonder if it is the depictions as to how our current society destroys the world we live in now and how people will react and adapt to the new and partially destroyed world that is left.  I hope our global outlook isn't as grim as the plots in these very famous stories.
